Advanced Fitness Hike - Aliso and Wood Canyons

Please be aware this is a fitness hike and not for beginners; the pace is approximately a 19-minute mile.

Raise your heart rate and your spirits on this very strenuous, fast-paced, 8-mile hike over very steep and uneven terrain with approximately 730 feet of elevation gain. This route begins at Aliso Creek Trail East, continues up Sheep Run and down Meadows Trail. Your hard work will be rewarded with sweeping views of Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park!

Discovery Hike - Wood Canyon

Explore Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park where you might see deer, bobcats and hawks. Learn about acorn woodpeckers, the wonderful ways of woodrats and the peculiar nature of certain plants. Enjoy wildlife sounds, smells and sights on this moderate 5-mile hike on rocky terrain with less than 500 feet of elevation gain.

Preschool Paleontology: Art & Storytime

Enjoy a morning at Clark Regional Park as we dig into the fascinating world of rocks and minerals! Participants will visit the Interpretive Center, listen to a story about our amazing ancient Earth and make a craft. Activities are designed for ages 2-5 but all are welcome.

We will meet on the lawn between parking lot A and the Interpretive Center.

Minors under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a guardian at all times.

Land Tending with LCF - Aliso Creek

Join OC Parks and Laguna Canyon Foundation at Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park as we learn and work together to create a healthier habitat for the native plants and wildlife that call Aliso Creek home.

Depending on the time of year, volunteers will assist with various stewardship activities, including removal of non-native plants, hand watering, seed collection, and/or planting of native plants. No experience is necessary and all tools will be provided. Please wear long pants, closed-toe shoes and sun protection, and bring water. Come out and join the team to help restore the wild lands we all enjoy!

Nature Journaling at Clark Park

Discover the joys of nature journaling with a short and slow guided hike at Clark Regional Park. No experience is necessary!

Nature journaling can be practiced in almost any space and combines observations with insights, questions, and connections with the environment around us. It allows us to pay attention to details that might otherwise be overlooked and meditate on their forms and place within the natural world. 

This program will begin with an introduction to the basic techniques for beginning and maintaining your nature journal, followed by a warmup activity, then a walk in the park to find a comfortable journaling space. Bring a sketch pad or journal and your own art materials such as pencils, pens or watercolors. A portable chair is recommended along with sun protection, water and snacks.

Oak Woodland Hike - Wood Canyon

Join OC Parks for a stroll through a majestic and mature oak woodland. We'll take a hike in upper Wood Canyon following Wood Creek under the canopy of beautiful coast live oak trees. This hike is approximately 2.5 miles with an estimated 200 feet of elevation gain. 

This is a wilderness hike: please wear closed-toe shoes, sun and weather protection and bring snacks and water.

Birding by the Creek

Aliso Creek is one of the best riparian birding sites in Orange County and gives access for a lovely morning hike.

OC Parks staff and volunteers will lead an easy 3-mile loop with 50 feet of elevation gain on uneven terrain. Travel along the creek on a dirt trail and return on a paved road while birding within the wilderness park. No experience necessary!

This program is for ages 12 and older (minors under 18 must be accompanied by an adult).  Wear hiking or walking shoes and bring binoculars.

Weeding and Watering: Native Garden Restoration

Please join us as we work towards restoring healthy habitat areas at Clark Regional Park. We will remove invasive plants, water thirsty native plants, and expand the native garden as conditions permit. No experience is necessary, and all tools will be provided. 

Please wear long pants, closed-toe shoes, sun protection, and bring water.

We will meet in Parking Lot H. This activity will take place within one quarter mile from the parking lot.

Minors aged 16 and younger must have legal guardian present at all times.

Family Hike - Dilley

*This program begins at James Dilley Preserve, 350 Artisan Dr., Laguna Beach, CA 92651*

Enjoy an easy 2.5-mile hike with your family in the Laguna Coast Wilderness Park!  Starting at the James Dilley Preserve, we will hike one of the most diverse areas of the park to Barbara’s Lake and back. The hike is moderate but includes uneven terrain and approximately 45 feet of elevation gain.

This program is for all ages. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Family Hike

Nature Meditation Walk

Join a naturalist on a guided nature meditation walk at Laguna Coast Wilderness Park. 

Unplug and relax outdoors, allowing your natural sense of wonder to engage in playful activities, deepening connections with the outside world and ourselves. At the end of this brief walk, we will end with a tea ceremony of reciprocity. Please note that this program involves making and drinking tea from sustainably sourced native plants. Be sure to notify park staff upon arrival of any food allergies or sensitivities. This program will begin on the patio of Nix Nature Center. 

This program is for ages 10 and older. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
