County of Orange Beaches in Laguna Beach Reopened Following Oil Spill Closure

The County of Orange, in coordination with Unified Command, announces the full reopening of County-operated beaches in the City of Laguna Beach at 8 a.m. today, October 14, consistent with the City’s full reopening of its beaches. These include Aliso Beach, Laguna Royale Beach, Table Rock Beach, Thousand Steps Beach and West Street Beach. The reopening is for the sand, shoreline and water.

The beachside parking lot of Aliso Creek Beach will reopen tomorrow morning at 6am. The inland side parking lot will remain closed in support of the incident.

All beaches in the County of Orange – including city beaches – are fully re-opened today, with the exceptions of Capistrano Beach and Poche Beach that remain closed due to construction.

The US Coast Guard is the lead agency coordinating the response to the oil spill incident. A unified command has been established and consists of Amplify Energy, the US Coast Guard, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, County of Orange and the County of San Diego. More information about the unified command response may be found at www.SoCalspillresponse.com.

Members of the public are asked to avoid assisting with cleanup in the oiled areas. Trained spill response contractors are working to clean up the oil and public volunteers are now being registered. Information may be found at https://calspillwatch.wildlife.ca.gov/Volunteer. If anyone encounters oiled wildlife, please avoid contact and call the Oiled Wildlife Care Network at 1-877- 823-6926.

Vessel owners impacted by the oil spill can file a claim by calling 1-866-985-8366. If your vessel has been impacted by the oil spill, do not attempt to clean your own boat.

For lost revenue and damage claims, please call 1-866-985-8366, referencing the Pipeline P00547 Incident.

If a member of the public spots oil that they suspect is from the oil spill, please contact tarballreports@wildlife.ca.gov

Newport Beach and Dana Point Harbors Reopened Following Oil Spill Closure

In cooperation with local judications, Unified Command has announced that the Captain of the Port has opened Newport Beach Harbor and Dana Point Harbor to all vessel traffic on 8th October 2021 at 3 p.m. PT. In addition, OC Parks is announcing the reopening of Bayside Beach, located in Newport Beach Harbor.

The sand at County-operated beaches in the City of Laguna Beach reopened at 9 a.m. today. These include Aliso Beach, Laguna Royale Beach, Table Rock Beach, Thousand Steps Beach and West Street Beach. The reopening is for the sand only, not the shoreline or the water.

The parking lot at Aliso Beach remains closed for staging for the cleanup efforts. The sand at City of Laguna Beach beaches also reopened at 7:00 a.m. today.

County-operated Salt Creek Beach, Strands Beach and Baby Beach located within Dana Point Harbor reopened October 7. Capistrano Beach and Poche Beach remain closed due to construction.

The City of Newport Beach’s beach advisory currently remains in place. Residents and visitors are advised to avoid contact with ocean water and oiled areas of the beach.

Huntington Beach ocean and shorelines (beginning at the lifeguard towers) between Warner Avenue and the Santa Ana River Jetty remain closed. Recreational fishing between Sunset Beach and Dana Point from the shoreline to six miles out is prohibited.

The Orange County coast has experienced a recent oil spill and an ongoing shoreline cleanup is in progress. The public can expect to see Shoreline Cleanup Assessment Teams and work crews equipped in protective gear, monitoring, inspecting, and cleaning the beaches to ensure that appropriate cleanup actions are taken. For your safety, the public is advised to avoid any contact with visible oil on the beaches.

The Rolling Hills parking lot will not be available during construction. Park visitors may experience an increase in construction-related noise and dust during regular working hours. The work activity will be enclosed in fencing for the safety of park visitors. All construction activity will occur on weekdays during normal working hours.

What

The new fishing platform will be ADA accessible and will enhance visitor experience at the park. The project will also replace the path of travel to the Rolling Hills parking lot.

Tri-City Regional Park Restroom Replacement

Project Summary

OC Public Works, on behalf of OC Parks, will complete Restroom #2 replacement project within Tri-City Regional Park located in the City of Placentia. What

The existing restroom 2 building near Rolling Hills Parking Lot will be demolished and replaced with a new restroom building containing 8 unisex stalls. The project will also replace the path of travel to the parking lot. The nearest alternative restroom is located near the main entrance of the park at Golden Avenue

Craig Regional Park Restroom Replacement

Project Summary

OC Public Works, on behalf of OC Parks, will complete a restroom replacement project within Ted Craig Regional Park located in the City of Fullerton. Restroom building #8, the basketball courts and the adjacent parking lot will not be available during project construction. Park visitors may experience an increase in construction-related noise and dust during regular working hours. The work activity will be enclosed in fencing for the safety of park visitors. All construction activity will occur on weekdays.

What

The existing restroom building near the park’s sports complex will be demolished and replaced with a new restroom building containing 10 unisex stalls. The project will also replace the concrete surrounding the basketball courts and the path of travel to the parking lot. The nearest alternative parking is Parking Lot J and the nearest restroom is adjacent to that lot.

Niguel Shores Rock Revetment Repair and Maintenance Project

OC Parks is working to maintain an existing rock shore protection device in Niguel Shores.

The Niguel Shores rock revetment protects approximately 1,250 feet of coastal frontage supporting residential bluff-top homes along Breakers Isle within the gated community of Niguel Shores. The project is located in the west-central portion of the City of Dana Point within a pocket shoreline reach bounded by Monarch Point on the northwest and Dana Point Headlands to the southeast.

Celebrate summertime outdoors with 10 free concerts + 13 free movie screenings at OC Parks June 18 – September 10
Top artists return to the summer concerts park stage including Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and Donavon Frankenreiter

(Orange County, Calif.) – The County of Orange and OC Parks are pleased to announce the return of the annual OC Parks Summer Concert Series and Sunset Cinema film series. All events will include free parking with food and drink available for purchase. Spend summer evenings in a family-friendly environment with free live music and movie screenings at parks across Orange County.

OC Parks Summer Concert Series returns with free outdoor concerts on Thursday evenings beginning June 24 from 5 – 8 p.m. Enjoy live music under the summer sky at Craig Regional Park, Mason Regional Park, Irvine Regional Park, Mile Square Regional Park and Bluff Park at Salt Creek Beach. 

The concert series kicks off with Flashback Heart Attack on June 24 at Craig Regional Park in Fullerton, followed by fan-favorite local artists including Uptown Funk, Surf’s Up, The Fenians, Queen Nation, and Tijuana Dogs. Free concerts continue with contemporary swing revival band Big Bad Voodoo Daddy on August 5 at Mile Square Regional Park in Fountain Valley, followed by the ultimate Smiths and Morrissey tribute band Sweet & Tender Hooligans, and blues and soul and rock band Family Style. Donavon Frankenreiter will close out the 2021 OC Parks Summer Concert Series at Bluff Park at Salt Creek Beach.

OC Parks Sunset Cinema film series brings family-friendly movies to the big screen at regional parks on Friday nights starting June 18. Enjoy a screening under the stars at Craig Regional Park, Carbon Canyon Regional Park, Yorba Regional Park, Mason Regional Park, Irvine Regional Park, Laguna Niguel Regional Park, and Bluff Park at Salt Creek Beach.

Guests of all ages are invited to enjoy recent favorites and popular classics throughout the summer. The event sites open at 6 p.m. and the movies begin at approximately 8 p.m. after sundown.

Friday night films kick off on Friday, June 18 and include the following: The NeverEnding Story (1984), How to Train Your Dragon (2010), Independence Day (1996), Dolittle (2020), The Sandlot (1993), Toy Story 4 (2019), Willow (1988),The Lion King (2019), The Mighty Ducks (1992), Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker (2019), Hook (1991), Dolphin Tale (2011), and The Little Mermaid (1989).

“The County of Orange and OC Parks are thrilled to be able to present the summer concert and movie series in person once again,” said Supervisor Andrew Do, Chairman of the Orange County Board of Supervisors. “These concert and movie events provide a wonderful opportunity for people of all ages to come enjoy entertainment in a beautiful, outdoor setting.”

OC Parks Summer Concert Series and OC Parks Sunset Cinema film series are entirely outdoors and will be held in accordance with the most current guidance from State and local health agencies. All events are open to the public of all ages and free to attend with free parking. Food trucks and booths will be available for delicious bites and beverages. Gather friends and family and enjoy free concerts and movie screenings this summer with OC Parks.
