Located within OC Parks’ Irvine Ranch Open Space, Red Rock Wilderness features more than 8 miles of new trails for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding along with a scenic overlook that offers 360-degree views of the nearby iconic red rocks, Black Star Canyon Wilderness, Irvine Lake, Santiago Canyon and beyond. 3 miles of multi-use trails within Loma Ridge Nature Preserve, part of OC Parks’ Irvine Ranch Open Space, will also be accessible for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding.

Visitors will have the opportunity to provide voluntary feedback about Red Rock Wilderness through on-site participation surveys and offer naming suggestions for several unnamed trails.

Red Rock Wilderness

Family Hike - Dilley

​​​​​​*This program begins at the James Dilley Preserve, 350 Artisan Dr., Laguna Beach, CA 92651*

Come and enjoy an easy, 2.5-mile family hike over moderate but uneven terrain with approximately 45 feet of elevation gain. Starting at the James Dilley Preserve, we will hike one of the most diverse areas of the park to Barbara’s Lake and back. 

Please wear closed-toe shoes, sun protection and bring plenty of water.

Family Hike

Nature Meditation Walk

Join a naturalist on a guided nature meditation walk at Laguna Coast Wilderness Park. 

Unplug and relax outdoors, allowing your natural sense of wonder to engage in playful activities, deepening connections with the outside world and ourselves. At the end of this brief walk, we will end with a tea ceremony of reciprocity. Please note that this program involves making and drinking tea from sustainably sourced native plants. Be sure to notify park staff upon arrival of any food allergies or sensitivities. This program will begin on the patio of Nix Nature Center. 

This program is for ages 10 and older. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Please wear closed-toe shoes, sun protection and bring water.

Meditation

Kids Native Plant Tea!

Join OC Parks naturalists in learning about identification and use of California’s native plants! Participants will learn how to identify plants and then make their own cold native plant tea! Please note that this program involves making and drinking tea from sustainably sourced native plants. Be sure to notify park staff upon arrival of any food allergies or sensitivities. This program will begin at the Nix Nature Center amphitheater and is for ages 7 and older.

Nature Creativity: Photography

Nature can inspire creativity in all of us. In this program, you will learn how to explore the natural world by taking pictures! Bring a camera or just your phone.

This program is designed for ages 12 and older. This program will meet at the Nix Nature Center amphitheater. Please wear closed-toe shoes, sun protection and bring water.
