Wilderness Access Day: Red Rock Wilderness, Equestrian

Advance registration is required for this program.

Experience the beauty of Red Rock Wilderness from the back of your horse.

Located within OC Parks’ Irvine Ranch Open Space, Red Rock Wilderness trails will be open for self-guided hiking, biking, and equestrian use.   Equestrian riders who have trail riding experience with a fit and able horse can enjoy a scenic ride that offers 360-degree views of the nearby iconic red rocks, Black Star Canyon Wilderness, Irvine Lake, Santiago Canyon and beyond. 

3 miles of multi-use trails within Loma Ridge Nature Preserve, also part of OC Parks’ Irvine Ranch Open Space, will be accessible for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding.

There is limited space for equestrian parking. Riders must also be able to transport their horse to the staging area.

Rain or inclement weather will cancel the program.

Explore 6 miles of trails at Gypsum Canyon Wilderness through this self-guided opportunity.

Located within OC Parks’ Irvine Ranch Open Space, Gypsum Canyon Wilderness features multiple trails for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding. Two lookout points offer sweeping views of the surrounding canyons and unique prehistoric rock formations. Multiple loop options that vary in distance and range from easy to moderate in difficulty are available for self-guided exploration.

Gypsum Canyon Wilderness is comprised of protected and preserved native habitats that are home to a variety of wildlife, including mule deer, red-tailed hawks, California gnatcatchers and bobcats and more.
