Craig Regional Park lake will undergo a lake restoration project beginning in June through Fall 2025.
WHAT:
Lake dredging and bank stabilization will be performed along 600 linear feet of shoreline on the north side of the lake. Click here for a project map.
Partially funded through a Habitat Conservation Grant, the project will increase the lake’s depth following many years of sediment build up from urban runoff and storm flows and restore the surrounding banks using native vegetation to improve long-term stabilization and ecological health.
Shelter 5 and a portion of parking lot G will be closed during dredging to allow for construction access.
The repaired shoreline will remain closed after construction while native vegetation is re-established.
WHEN:
Anticipated Construction Duration: June through Fall 2025
Working Days/Hours: Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Work on Saturdays may be performed.
The construction schedule is tentative and subject to change due to weather and other factors.

Join us for a slow-paced hike in Irvine Ranch Open Space, specifically Limestone Canyon. Our pace will be around 2.5 MPH for this 5.5-mile hike with an elevation gain of about 400 feet. Slowing our pace will encourage us to experience the land with all of our senses. We will be able to see, smell and hear the sounds of the Open Space! If you enjoy recording your sightings of wildflowers, please download the App called SEEK (INaturalist) prior to reaching the Augustine Staging area. We will use SEEK to identify native and non-native wildflowers. Our hike will take us along Limestone Canyon and then over to Dripping Springs. Dripping Springs is a year-round spring where we will encounter water that is expressed through the side of a vertical rock face. Due to shade and moisture, we will find that the plants in Dripping Springs are very different from the plants and flowers found in the meadow area of Limestone Canyon.
Participants should be prepared to hike on dirt trails and have previously hiked a similar distance. Please come prepared with a backpack and at least 1 liter of water, closed-toed hiking shoes or boots, snacks, sunscreen, hat and any other supplies to keep you safe and healthy on the trail. EACH hiker must carry their own water and supplies.
Please note that you will be asked to adhere to the following measures in order to participate:
