1. Sunset Cinema – Pete’s Dragon

Self-guided access at normally guided access Irvine Ranch Open Space areas. “The Sinks” is a popular destination, with a 9-mile round-trip hike over moderate terrain that can take the majority of the designated event time.

3. Bugs and Butterflies

10 a.m. – 3 p.m.

OC Parks invites children and families to learn all about bugs and butterflies! Come tour Riley Wilderness Park’s butterfly garden at this free, family-friendly event. Learn all about unique and unusual insects and how to attract bugs and butterflies to your own garden. Special guests include Mimi the Monarch Butterfly and Western Monarch Guardians! Explore educational stations, informative exhibits and live anthropod friends. Plant and insect experts will be available to provide educational information and answer questions. Additional activities include a live butterfly enclosure, children’s face painting, native plant sales, storytelling, park tours and arts and crafts. There will also be a live butterfly release at 3 p.m. A food truck will be on-site serving delicious culinary creations available for purchase.

6. GoHuman – Connect the Loop

Join OC Parks, the City of Yorba Linda and the City of Anaheim and experience riding your bike on a bike lane separated from traffic by parked vehicles, and riding or walking on an off-street path alongside food trucks, entertainment, family-friendly activities, giveaways and more! Bike, walk, skate, and roll to experience pop-up safety projects along Fairmont Connector and Fairmont Boulevard. Check out the protected bike lane on Fairmont Connector and the shared-use path on Fairmont Boulevard that make the streets safer and more enjoyable for everyone. Don't have a bike? Don't worry! 15. Hike to the Redwood Grove

8:30 – 10 a.m.

Join OC Parks' trained staff on the first Saturday of the month for an easy 1.1-mile early morning interpretive hike to the park's Coastal Redwood grove. You will use your five senses to engage with nature as you stroll to the redwoods. You will also have an opportunity to learn about our native plants along the trail. The hike begins at 8:30 a.m. from the park's Parking Lot 5.

21. Santiago Oaks Guided Nature Hike

Join an experienced docent on an easy 2-mile hike through the amazing Santiago Creek watershed as we watch for raptors, birds and other wildlife. Along the way, you will learn about some of the animals and plants that call the park home. Participants will uncover historical relics and talk about the surrounding Santa Ana mountain landscape.

41. Documentary Screening: The Long Start to the Journey

7 – 9 p.m.

Irvine Regional Park invites you to watch an indoor documentary screening of The Long Start to the Journey. The film follows the journey of hiker and filmmaker Chris Gallaway as he attempts to hike the entire Appalachian Trail. Along the way, he meets other hikers who share their stories and reasons for hiking the 2,200 mile trail that passes through 14 states in the Eastern United States. The film will also give a history of the trail, from its roots in the early 20th century to the present.

42. Sunset Cinema – A Bug’s Life

43. Perseids Meteor Shower: Stargazing in Limestone Canyon

Gear up for this amazing star gazing night as we capture this summer’s meteor shower! Our evening will begin with a fun interactive intergalactic activity that will help us understand our solar system. We will then stretch out under the stars to capture one of this season’s spectacular outer galactic shows!

Have you ever wondered, "Where are all the wild animals in the park?" Visit a Show and Share exhibit next to the Nature Center at O'Neill Regional Park and discover mysterious clues animals leave behind. Make and take home your own wild animal track mold. Enjoy nature, crafts and games! Show and Share exhibit activities from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Scavenger Hunt or Nature Walk from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

49. Then and Now: An Interactive Discovery of Animals Living in OC’s Past and Present

1 – 3 p.m.

Come out to Clark Regional Park on the last Sunday of every month to learn about the animals that ruled the land 10,000 years ago and the animals living in Orange County today. Visit the Show and Share activity table for hands-on exhibits and discover the similarities and differences between past and present animals. 50. Family Science Sunday

10 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Come join us for a fun day of learning anytime between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Family Science Sundays feature free activities in the Muth Interpretive Center’s Discovery Classroom. Each month, we will explore a different educational theme. The activities are self-guided and may include hands-on exhibits, outside hikes, crafts and more.
