Frequently Asked Questions:
What Is The Park Ranger Citation Program?
| Effective January 2, park rangers were authorized to begin issuing civil citations to individuals who violate County ordinances. Violators will be required to pay a fine as established by the ordinance. The main goal of issuing citations is to protect park visitors and resources. The general focus of our park management policy is to obtain voluntary compliance with ordinances by park visitors. The amount of the fine will increase for repeated violations.
| Are Park Rangers Police Officers?
| No. However, rangers are “peace” officers as defined by California Penal Code 830.31. The principal duties of the park ranger will not change. They will continue to be hosts, interpreters, and guides, while also being better equipped to protect park patrons and natural resources.
