Aliso & Wood Canyons Wilderness Park Resource Management Plan
Orange County Parks is spearheading the Aliso & Wood Canyons Wilderness Park (AWCWP) Resource Management Plan (RMP). The main purpose of this RMP is to:
•Establish general goals and specific long-range resource management policies necessary to protect, enhance, and perpetuate the resource values within the park;
•Identify existing resources and their sensitivities, and establish methodologies for managing the natural and cultural resources within a recreation-oriented setting;
•Create a consensus-based RMP that establishes a balance between park resource values and stakeholder interests;
•Identify priorities and provide guidance for implementing goals and long-range policies.
A vitally important component of this RMP planning process will be community participation. Your input will assist our resource experts in creating a balance amongst the competing interests to determine the best management practices to manage the natural resources of the park and allow for compatible recreation.
Aliso & Wood Canyons Wilderness Park is considered one of Orange County’s most popular and treasured natural open spaces. This unique park is an asset for Orange County, because of its rich and diverse natural environment and trails. With its lush, oak woodlands and broad areas of grassland and coastal sage scrub, this facility provides spectacular views and opportunities for a variety of visitor experiences. The park is popular with many outdoor enthusiasts including hikers, cyclists, runners, equestrians, bird watchers, photographers, painters and naturalists.
An updated schedule for the AWCWP RMP will be available in early 2008.
