Entrance Gate at Wieder Park.
Phase 1A of Harriett M. Wieder Park is a four-acre site of the future planned 106-acre regional park. Wieder Park includes a 24-car parking lot, open turf area for picnicking, decomposed granite pathways, toddler and youth playground equipment, picnic area, native plants, trails, and a scenic viewpoint. When the regional park is fully completed it will provide an important recreational trail link between Huntington Beach Central Park and Bolsa Chica State Beach. The park was designed to harmonize with the area’s environment through the use of native plants and subdued and artistic materials for parking areas, walkways, benches and playgrounds.

Unique features include creative challenging play equipment called Galaxy that display attractive, contemporary abstract designs which encourage creative and thought-provoking play for children ages 6-12. Similar to Galaxy, the Elements tot lot area for 2-5 year-olds feature units that promote climbing, sliding, swinging, spinning and tottering fun. Wieder Park has more than 2,200 lineal feet of new trails (just under a ½ mile in the four plus acre area) and an additional 520 feet of soft riding trail spanning the street front portion of the park. The site is further enhanced by 1,700 native plants. Finally its 1,300-foot wire fence protects children from street traffic and serves as a boundary separating adjacent private property.

What also sets Wieder Park apart from others is its make-up of recycled materials such as car bumper stops, trash can hangers, old tires that encompass 9,000 plus square feet of play area rubberized surfacing, and crushed miscellaneous base parking lot surfacing. In addition, the park was graded to recycle water run-off. Rain and irrigation water is captured on-site to replenish groundwater using a bio-swale system that collects site nuisance water.
